Let’s face it- nobody likes to get dents on their cars and nobody likes looking at them either! Even worse, not many people actually know how to repair a car dent. No need to worry friends, because there is a fairly simple do-it-yourself way to repair car dents and get the whip looking like new again. Although professional work may need to be done on bigger dents and cracks, there is a very effective method to use when tackling smaller to medium size dents, and here’s what to do:
- Take a drill and drill a small hole in the center of the dent. Don’t make the hole to small or too big as you may either prevent the dent pulling tool from fitting or not be able to fill the hole!
- Insert a dent pulling tool into the hole (available at hardware/automotive stores).
- Pull the tool until either the dent pops out or appears to be flattened, then remove the tool carefully.
- From the other side of the dented panel (and you may need to CAREFULLY get around some interior paneling or other obstructions if necessary), use a metalworking hammer or rubber mallet to carefully bang out the dent until the panel is smooth again. Take your time on this!
- Use body filler (also available at hardware/automotive stores) to fill in the hole. **Be sure to follow instructions with filler or you may have to refill the hole!!
- Apply touch-up paint to the area to cover up the hole, still working according to instructions.
- Let it completely dry and enjoy your fresh looking car! Not as hard as it seems, huh?
Well, there you have it- the simple steps on how to repair a car dent. With these steps you can ensure that your car is looking as good as new for years to come. Just make sure you get the right tools, read the instructions, and take the right precautions to get this done the right way. Don’t forget- take your time! Be safe and smart when working with tools and vehicles. Enjoy this quick fix!
