Water is the greatest enemy of the delicate electronics contained within your cell phone. Unfortunately water is also one of the most abundant substances on the planet it is everywhere waiting to pounce and damage your cell phone, No matter how careful you are to avoid dropping it in water you can’t escape the fact that on occasion water just falls out of the sky and so we will be answering the question how to protect your cell phone from the rain. In a while we’ll look at what is out there to protect your phone, but first I want to just instill a little common sense. If you are outside in the rain try to keep your cell phone tucked away in a dry pocket or bag. If the phone rings look for somewhere sheltered to answer it. If you are at home and you have to dash out for a short while ask yourself if it is so important that you can be contacted or will it be ok to leave it at home? Cell phones are more than phones now and so it is tempting to play with them every minute of the day, but if it’s raining leave that game on your phone alone until you find somewhere dry to play it. Water and electronics don’t do well together and so the more you can do to keep them apart the better. Ok so that’s the lecture over, and most of us live lives that function no matter what the weather and so manufactures have come up with all kinds of products to protect your phone from the elements so now we will look at how to protect your cell phone from the rain and yet be able to use it.
1) The best way to protect your phone from the rain is to not expose it to the rain. A way to do that would be to use a hands free Bluetooth or hardwired headset. The phone can stay in your pocket yet you will still be able to receive calls. If your phone has voice recognition capability then you may even be able to make calls to anyone in your address book via the headset also.
2) There is a great array of cases for phones available. You can look online or visit a cell phone store for cases that can protect your phone from the elements. These will likely be able to protect your phone for a short while, but unless you purchase the most extreme military grade case it may not be effective if you dropped your phone in a puddle, or tried to operate in monsoon deluge.
3) When it rains, keep your phone in a waterproof bag or ziplock. That way if it falls from your pocket it will not suffer water damage.
4) You can purchase skins for phones that offer an extra layer of protection. Like cases these will protect your phone for a short time, but be aware skins will have access holes where the speaker and accessory ports are to keep them useable. So this should give some pointers as to how to protect you cell phone from the rain.
If your phone does get wet and stop working, there are many suggestions all over the web as to how to dry it out. Whether these remedies actually work or not is anybodies guess, but hopefully now you won’t have the need to subject your phone to a hairdryer, an oven on low temperature or whatever other crazy suggestion people may come up with.
