1. One of the simplest ways to see if a friend of yours has created a Facebook profile is to search for them by name. You can further narrow down this search by including the city and/or state in your search.
2. You can also search for people using their email address, which is good if you write to someone often and are unsure of how to spell their name, or exactly where they are living. You can also search by instant messanger names from AOL IM or Windows Live Messanger.
3. Another method is by searching by your graduation year from high school or college, or by places of former or current employment. If you input this data into your profile, the site will suggest you search by these and provide links. Otherwise, you can search by schools or companies.
4. When you set up an account, Facebook will suggest people you know based on where you live, where you went to school, previous or current employment, and friends you’ve already added. The site will continue to do this all along in the upper right corner of your homepage, and you can close the ones you don’t want to contact and get more suggestions. You don’t have to be friends with these people, but it may suggest someone you haven’t thought about in a while, so it’s nice to have.
5. Your current friends may also suggest people you mutually know or they want you to get to know by sending you a message. You have the choice to ask these people to be friends, or not.
6. No matter how you go about finding friends, when you see someone you think you know, you can click on their picture to go to their profile, click to add as a friend, send them a message, or view their friends.
