How to Cover Grey Hair

These are the steps of how to cover grey hair like a professional. If you have a little extra money and an hour or so to spare, going to a professional salon can be a good change, and you can watch them and see how they perform for the next time you need to do your color at home. Not only will hairstylist do all the work for you, but there will be virtually no mess to clean up at home, except possibly a ring in the shower the first time you wash your hair.

1. Place a towel around the neck of the person receiving the coloring, (preferably one that can be thrown away) and then either clip it or tuck it in the shirt so it does not fall off.

2. Cover the towel with a hairstyling cape so as not to accidentally drip color on any clothing.

3. You will need twenty volume developer and the hair color of your choice. Mix equal parts in a color bowl. The reason it is so important to use twenty volume developer as opposed to any other developer is because it produces the maximum grey coverage on hair.

4. Section the hair off into four sections by parting the hair down the middle at the nose, and then from the back of one ear over the crown to the back of the other ear. Secure with clips.

5. Use the color brush to take small sliced sections and apply the color to the hair. If it is a virgin color, (no previous color in the hair) you may apply it all at once in this manner. If, however, there is previous color in the hair, apply only to the roots at first, as grey hair is course and will be less porous than colored hair. After a specified amount of time, which will be explained in the next step, you will apply color to the previously colored hair.

6. For hair that has never been processed before, the color will have to process for thirty to forty-five minutes. For more resistant hair, the latter is preferred. For hair that has been processed before, you will need to let the color sit on the roots first for thirty minutes, and then pull it through to the roots for the last ten minutes.

7. Rinse all of the color out of the hair carefully, because it is a chemical and can cause blindness if left in the eyes. Wash with a color-safe shampoo. 8. Style as desired.

With these eight detailed and easy to understand steps, you should have no problem remembering how to cover grey hair. Good luck!
