The problem with any screen, particularly portable devices as they are handled more frequently is that the screen from time to time need cleaning, and so we’ll be looking at how to clean an LCD screen. Firstly there tends to be two types of screen. Screens that are protected by a sheet of glass or Perspex such as some flat screen TV or an iphone, and then there are screen that are not, like most laptops. If you press your finger gently on a laptop screen you will notice that the picture will distort slightly. You have to be extra careful with this type of screen. Knowing what type of screen you may affect your choices when deciding how to clean your LCD screen. For some large glass covered screen TVs you could use a mild glass cleaner (be sure to check that the screen is glass covered as if not this may damage your screen irreparably). For non-protected screens always use a mild alcohol screen cleansing solution. The technique for both types of screen is the same.

1. Turn off the device that you are about to clean.

2. In the case of TVs wave your hand in front of the screen to discharge any static from the screen. (You will notice a mild tingly feeling when your hand is close after a few waves the sensation will disappear meaning the static has gone.

3. Using an anti static brush sweep away any dust particles

4. Spray your cleaning solution onto a micro fiber cloth and wipe the screen clean

5. Using a second micro fiber cloth starting from the top of the screen using side to side motions quickly dry the screen to avoid smearing.

6. If you didn’t catch all the smears or the screen isn’t clean enough repeat from step 4.

Most likely you didn’t dry away the solution quickly enough leaving the solution to dry by itself in a smeary pattern. For some small electronic devices you can purchase stick on shields that protect screens from scratches and make cleaning easier. If you use one of these then you should be able to wipe away fingerprints and dusts with a micro fiber cloth without the need for any solution. From time to time all screen will get dirty of covered in fingerprints and so know how to clean an LCD screen properly will help your electronic devices serve you more effectively.
