When you show up to a job interview it is a must to look spiffy. What you are wearing says a lot about you. It can say that you are a slob and not worth the employer’s time or it can tell the employer you are a very put together person that is meticulous about work. Following my guide will guarantee you look good when you show up for your next job interview.

Pick out your very best looking suit. If you do not own a suit go and buy one in your price range. The nicer the suit the better. It tells the employer that you are serious about getting the job and will get you brownie points easily.

Pick out a nice undershirt and a matching tie. The tie can also tell people a lot about you. You do not want to where one with smiley faces or something of the sort because that portrays you as a child. You want to wear one with a neat design and not too many wild colors.

You have to make certain that all of your clothing is ironed nicely. If you have wrinkles in your clothing it shows the employer that you put no time towards getting ready. This will give him the though that you really just do not care at all about the job.

Get a pair of nice dress shoes to top off the outfit. It is better to get something with laces than with slip on shoes because that just looks lazy. Black shoes usually look more formal than brown shoes so I would suggest black shoes.

One of the most important parts of getting a good assessment at a job interview is looking good. Looking good, put together, neat, and overall just professional will give the employer the thought that you really want the job. Probably the most important thing to do out of everything is to iron your clothes nicely because you do not want to have wrinkled clothing on, it makes you look tacky. I hope this guide helps you and good luck with your next job interview, as it helps you to know How to Dress for a Job Interview as a Man.

When you are hiring a new employee, know what kind of person you are looking for. Well conducted interviews should allow you to select the best people for your positions. Take time to do things right. The most time should be spent in preparation and research, but know that doing the work now will save you the trouble of employing a sub par employee in the future. Here is our steps on How to Conduct a Job Interview.

1. Know your rights and responsibilities as an employer. Be aware that employers cannot ask questions about religion, national origin, age, height, weight, marital status, disability, or gender unless they represent indisputable qualifications essential to the operation of the business.

2. Format an application or announce your acceptance of resumes. Consider creating a questionnaire to go along with your application if you have a job that requires specific knowledge or experience.

3. Create a grading rubric to analyze the information you will collect from the interviews. If you are the hiring manager, be ready to utilize your assistant managers in the interview process, especially if they are the ones that will have to train and supervise the newcomer.

4. Post the job opening to as broad an audience as you are willing to sift through.

5. Become familiar with your candidates resumes. Call the best for a face to face interview.

6. Be congenial, but do not spend too much time finding out biographical information. Be open and honest about any research you might do on the prospective employee’s background. Tell them that you will be calling their references if you will be doing so. You might decide to ask candidates in advance if they have anything they would be embarrassed to have an employer see online if you must view candidates personal websites (i.e. MySpace, Facebook.

7. Ask many behavioral questions, including examples of these behaviors in work performance. Ask candidates about the hardest situations they have had to deal with. If you are hiring a supervisor, ask them how they rallied a team to accomplish a hard goal. If you are hiring a sales representative, ask them how they dealt with an angry customer.

8. Be consistent throughout all of the interviews. Ask the same questions in the same tone of voice. Be ready to use the knowledge that you have so carefully gathered quickly. Get your new employee on the job as soon as possible, but make a careful analytical assessment beforehand.

Do not judge anyone too quickly and utilize your associate’s judgments to buttress your decision making. May the next job interview that you conduct be a successful one because of these guidelines on How to Conduct a Job Interview.

Several members of your household may also use your home office, and so efficient organization of your home office will make your life simpler and less stressful. The central point of your home office will most likely be your computer. It can be frustrating using a computer when the desktop has part finished projects left there by other people. Here are some useful tips on how to organize your home office when it comes to the computer.

Set up individual user accounts on your computer for each member of the family. If you are a parent of children and teens it would be good idea to give yourself administrator access to the accounts of minors so you can be sure that they are being safe whilst using the computer.

Partition the hard drive of the computer so that each person has his or her own drive space. If space is running low consider investing in external hard drives for individual members to store their data.

Consider adjustable height furniture that each member of your household can access the computer in an ergonomically safe manner.

Make a rule that household members are responsible for leaving the public desktop clear and that they only have themselves to blame if projects left on the public desktop space is moved to trash.

Your home office will also be a place where many documents will pass through and will need to be processed. You will processing information about all elements of your life. Filing cabinets are a good idea to keep your office organized. Desks also come with storage space. Here are some tips to help you manage and organize your home office space.

Invest in a filing cabinet. In the filing cabinet put dividers to separate all the different elements that you are managing in you home office. Some elements for example a home business may require one or more complete drawers dedicated to that purpose.

Files come in many colors. You can assign different color files for different things for example, Red files are for car documents, blue files are for bank documents, green for insurance etc.

Keep like items together and consider buying small storage items for things like pens, paperclips etc. Make sure everything in the office has a home and not just dumped on the desk.

For larger items such as reams of paper use a closet close to your desk.

Invest in a multi level tray that can be used as an in tray out tray for documents that need to be taken care of immediately. Make sure that you clear your in tray quickly so as not to allow documents to pile up.

Make sure that everything you use is put away as soon as you finish to avoid chaos piling up in your office.

Make a rule that states anything that does not belong in the office is kept out of the office at all times to avoid clutter.

If you are running a business from home keep anything that pertains to the business separate from the management of your home. If you stop working on one thing put everything away, before starting on something else.

Make a rule that states all household members- if you use it, put it back where it belongs. Aside from following simple rules, you can organize your home office by being wise in the selection of your office furniture. Choosing a desk that has storage space for example will give more options to help with organizing the space. Make sure that any furniture you buy will make efficient use of the space you are going to put it in.

With the economy tanking like it has over the past year, there are lots of people who are out looking for work. Whether you are looking because you recently got laid off, fear you might get laid off, or just looking for your first job, there are some things you can do prepare yourself for the all important job interview. Here are some tips for how to prepare for a job interview.

1 – Research the company. This is very important because it sets the stage for most of the other preparation steps. You’ll need to find out what they do, what the culture is like, and maybe even some key people in the organization. Prospective employers want to see that an applicant can take the initiative to find out about their company. Once you have a good grasp of the company, you can tailor your responses to fit what they are looking for. This shows them that you’re interested in them specifically, and are not just randomly shooting resumes everywhere hoping you get lucky (even though this might be the case).

2 – Practice talking to an audience. Before you even glance at common questions, you need to get in the habit of talking in front of someone. This can be with a partner or even just to the mirror. You need to get comfortable talking and getting feedback about any nervous habits you might have. A partner will be able to point these out to you, and watching yourself in the mirror will serve the same purpose.

3 – Prepare for common questions. Most job interviews will have some common questions that they will use to gage everyone on a level playing field. Some common ones that I’ve personally seen are: – Tell me about yourself – What are your strengths/weaknesses – Why are you interested in our company – Tell me something about you that is not on your resume – What makes you stand out from the rest of our applicants These are important questions to know how to answer. The next tip will help you with the best way to give an answer.

4 – Think of anecdotes to answer questions. Anecdotes are very important to an employer because it gives a better picture of who the applicant is. Anyone can answer ‘I’m hard working’, but it’s entirely different to have a story (hopefully entertaining) that illustrates that point. If they ask you why they should hire you, tell them your strengths, and then wrap it up by telling them a story that illustrates that strength. These will help you stand out to an employer.

5 – Dress appropriately for the interview. This doesn’t mean go out and by a suit. If the company is a more casual place that loves innovation, maybe business casual would be more appropriate. My favorite story about this is a friend of mine who lives in California. He was interviewing for a PE Firm and showed up to the interview in business casual (no tie) when every other candidate was decked out in a full suit. When the interviewer came out, he looked at my friend, and then everyone else and said “You’ll notice that we’re more casual on the West Coast.” Oh, and he got the job. Just a couple of tips. Remember to polish your responses and think of any interesting stories to help you prove your points.

It’s a tough environment out there, but there are jobs, and with some hard work you’ll be able to find one. There is no substitution for preparation, as you will find in our list of tips for how to prepare for a job interview. Good Luck.

Progress is a way of life. Everybody wants to climb the ladder of success. Everyone wants to earn well, have a family, raise kids and then watch them progress. If this kind of growth did not exist, man and technology would not be at a position they are in now.

Every school needs bright teachers to produce bright students, which builds a healthy competitive spirit. In the same way, an office of any kind will run smoothly if every employee works hard to climb the ladder. This has great beneficial effects on the overall growth of the company, but if everyone works equally diligently, who will be the lucky one to get the promotion? No doubt, honesty and hard work are important, but you need to have an edge when compared to the others. Here are a few tips that can get you a promotion at work.

Be neat and tidy. External appearance plays a great role when it comes to impressing your boss.

Be punctual. If you are late, explain yourself as humbly as you can.

Do not talk back to your authorities. Nobody likes an arrogant man.

Try not to bad-mouth your boss and your colleagues, even if they have been mean and unfair towards you, but at the same time do not be their punching bag.

Be eager to learn and be subject to correction.

Work hard and try to produce the best results without cheating.

Always think and act out of the box. During an interview, your bosses will always look for someone who has gone the extra mile and done something unique and different. This shows creativity and proves that you are willing to take small risks.

Be alert and learn to grab the opportunities that come knocking on your door, but at the same time make sure you do not step on your co-workers success. You may get away with it once, but you must know that the universe always settles the scores in the end.

Try not to have personal relationships and affairs within your office.

Never lie during an interview or on your resume because in due time your boss will know you did so and this could cost you your job.

Following these little steps in day-to-day life, be it at work or home, will help you live better and show you how to get a promotion at work. Self-satisfaction and job satisfaction also have beneficial effects on your health. Good luck!

In this tough job market, it’s important to cover all your bases when going in for an interview. One common mistake people make when interviewing, is not wearing the appropriate attire. Sure, it may seem like a simple enough task: look professional, don’t wear jeans. Studies suggest that an interviewer makes up That being said, here are some important things to keep in mind to ensure that you look completely polished to get that job!

1. Make sure any skirt you wear is below the knee. This is standard if you choose to go with a skirt/blouse set instead of a suit. However, it is still preferable to find a nicely tailored suit if you can afford to do so. Make sure any blouse you wear is not revealing, low cut or too tight.

2. Avoid wearing flashy colors or complicated prints. While you might be a fashion forward person and feel strongly about getting this aspect of your personality across, a job interview is not the place. A good rule of thumb is to stick to neutral and solid colors. Remember, you want to be remembered for your job qualifications, not your outfit. A loud outfit can often be distracting and turn out to be the only thing that an interviewer remembers about you when going through a pile of interviews a few days later.

3. Always make sure that any socks or nylons that you wear are black or dark colored. Wearing white socks, for men or women, is always considered very unprofessional.

4. Make sure that your hair is out of your face. It is okay to wear it down if you would rather not pull it back, but make sure it is behind your ears or styled in a way that you will not constantly have to be touching it.

5. Make sure your nails are clean and neat. This is something often overlooked by interviewees, but almost always noticed by interviewers. This also goes for men and women. Remember, you should always dress in accordance with your resume. If you present a polished and professional resume, your appearance should match or exceed that image.

The modern job market is very tough, particularly in this economy when it seems that more people are being laid off than being hired. It is important then that your resume is up to date and as comprehensive as possible. Gone are the days of a job for life, which leads us to the question, How to address employment gaps in a resume.

First of all do not panic most people these day will have periods of life in which they found themselves unemployed. Sometimes this is through choice such as a woman taking time off to have a baby, or somebody taking some time out to travel. For others they may have been laid off or fired from a job and it just took longer than expected to find another job. Most employers understand that modern life is very complicated.

So if you are wondering how to address employment gaps in you resume then you are in good company. The most important thing is that you can explain the gaps in your employment history, and be able to explain them well. Be prepared to explain in an interview that the gaps in your employment were filled with meaningful activities and not just sitting around at home waiting. Did you go traveling and if so did the experience give you new insight that will be beneficial to a potential employer? If for example you went to Thailand you could argue that you have a deeper understanding of the company’s Asian clients that would be good for business.

If you were laid off but filled your time cycling whist you were job-hunting, did you achieve any goals or win any competitions during that time. If so that would say something positive about your character. Did you do any voluntary work? Not only would something like that speak about your character, but it also shows that you would have used employable skills all of which can be used to sell yourself.

The important thing will be to examine the employment gaps in your resume and fill them with skills and experiences that you learned or practiced during those times. You should write a paragraph on you resume that tells a potential employer about all these things and be prepared to talk about them in an interview, as most likely these will be something interesting that the interviewer would like to hear about. If you do this right you will find yourself turning something that looks like a negative into a very big positive.

In the currently tough economic climate, many people are looking for a quick way to make a little extra cash to cover bills and expenses. For those of you who are looking for a way to make just a few extra dollars a week, here are some helpful tips and strategies:

1. Sell any items you don’t need on Craigslist. If there are pieces of furniture, electronics, or household items lying around that you haven’t used or don’t have a great need for, you can probably fetch a decent few bucks for them on Craigslist.

2. Buy and sell concert tickets. If there is a big name concert coming to your town that you know will sell out, buy a few tickets and then sell them for a little more than the asking price. Sure, this is technically frowned upon but it is very common and rarely punished.

3. If you make any types of crafts, paintings or artwork, consider selling them online through a network site like etsy.com. This can be fun and bring in some extra revenue.

4. Check local business for signs and the Craigslist “gigs” section for odd jobs you could perform. If you have a pretty open schedule, you will have more luck finding opportunities this way.

5. List any special services you can offer online, such as tutoring for SAT’s or GRE’s, or household repairs.

6. Take survey’s online for money. There are many sites online that offer this, although the rate of return is quite low. Alternatively, if you live in a town with a University, look to see if they have any paid research studies that you could participate in.

7. Pick up a weekend or an evening job. There are many call centers, movie theaters, or other businesses that only need workers on weekends or evenings.

8. Sell back your clothes to a vintage shop. Make sure that there are no rips, tears or stains. Remember, even in tough times there are ways to make a few extra bucks if you really need it. The key is to be resourceful and follow helpful tips like the ones outlined above.

Writing a quality well versed resume is very important in obtaining employment and presenting yourself as a possible candidate to prospective employers. Your resume can literally make or break your chances of obtaining a chance at employment. It is important that a resume be concise but simultaneously detailed in explaining your qualifications and experience. Learning how to write a resume is one of the greatest assets you can have to separate yourself from other potential candidates.

Before beginning the process of writing your resume it is imperative that you gather all necessary information that will needed to be included on a resume that many employers look for. This information includes names and addresses of the all employers for at least the last five years, names and addresses of educational institutions and if possible current names, addresses and phone numbers of your references. Having this information readily available will make composing your resume much easier.

Purchase quality stock paper to print your resume on. Do this before even beginning to compose your resume so that you won’t have to settle for plain multi-purpose printer paper later on. The type of paper you use can definitely set you apart from other applicants and will get your resume noticed by potential employers.

To begin composing your resume the simplest and most efficient way is to use a resume builder template that can be found in many word processing applications. Using a template takes the work out of some of the formatting. Open the template and choose a classic professional design for your resume.

After choosing the design you will be prompted to fill in your basic information such as name, address, phone number and email address for the basic contact information of your resume.

Next you will choose the headings that you would prefer to include in your resume such as Objective, Employment/Work Experience, Education, Skills/Qualifications and References. The headings should be pretty concise.

Once all the filler information has been recorded the template will bring up the resume that has fields that should be filled in. Check to make sure that all the contact information and the headers are correct—if not go back and change the information in the template.

After confirming all information is correct now you must fill in the blank fields. Start with your objective. Make sure your objective is specific and directly related to the position you are applying for.

Next complete your employment information. Include at least three employers starting with your most recent position. Make sure to include the full names of each company and the title of your position and the location of the job. Underneath each job entry type your experience or duties preferably using bullets to highlight specific skills. Try to be as concise as possible. Repeat the above step for each of the remaining headings. Make sure to include the most valuable and applicable information for education. Skills/Qualifications should be short and directed towards highlighting skills related to the position and if possible bulleted.

References can be detailed in either one of two ways. The first way is to type References Available Upon Request or to actually provide the contact names, addresses and the phone numbers of the employers provided in the resume. It is up to you to choose but some employers do find it useful when job candidates readily offer this information.

After entering all the relevant information into the resume template spell and grammar check for any errors and read over your resume thoroughly for a final check.

Finally, do a print preview to make sure your resume is nicely formatted, preferably no longer than 1-2 pages and print your resume on high quality paper.

Save your resume in a convenient place in order to use for applying to jobs electronically and to print copies at a later date.

By following the above steps thoroughly learning how to write a resume will be fairly easy. It takes some time to gather your information, but once this is done resume builders and templates make it fairly uncomplicated to compose a professional looking quality resume.
