How to do Abdominal Crunches

A great way to give your abdominal muscles a workout without the strain of full sit-ups, is to perform the alternative: abdominal crunches. Sit ups can leave your back aching and cause spinal complications to some people who either do sit-ups incorrectly, or simply do not have a strong core and back already. With crunches, the weight of your body isn’t flung onto your back alone, and allows for a person to do a larger number of repetitions. This easy step-by-step allows for a person to do adequate abdominal crunches.

  1. Find either a smooth blanket to fold or a mat, such as a yoga mat.
  2. Lay the mat or blanket on the ground in an area where you have lots of leg and arm room. The last thing you want is to be cramped in a bedroom with no space on the floor. So a living room or family room is ideal.
  3. Position yourself so you are lying on your back on the mat, facing the ceiling.
  4. Bring your knees up so that your feet are planted firmly on the ground while you are lying on your back. Imagine that your legs are creating a triangle shape with the ground.
  5. Place your hand loosely behind your head. One of the things to avoid in toning exercises is unwanted tension. If you are clenching your hands too tightly behind your head, or locking your knees too tightly, you could cause yourself unwanted harm. So keep everything loose and relaxed.
  6. With hands still behind your head, lift the upper half of your body up, as if you are trying to be face-to-face with your knees. You body shouldn’t be lifting too high, only at a 45-degree angle at most.
  7. Once you have lifted your body to a 45-degree angle, which you should NOT rush, hold the position for five seconds. Remember to breathe as calmly as possible.
  8. After five seconds, slowly lower your upper half of your body again to the ground. Take a three second rest and then repeat.

REMEMBER: do not do any number of reps you aren’t comfortable with. If doing crunches causes sharp pain in your back, stomach, or neck, stop the exercise”

How to Transfer Music to an IPod

Transferring music to an IPod can be a very grueling task. This guide will help simplify the process and make it easier and quicker to do than usual. If you follow this guide correctly you should have no problem figuring out how to put music on to your IPod.

1. Download the program iTunes. Unfortunately, there is absolutely no way around this. You have to have to program on your computer or else there is no other possible way to get the music on to your iPod.

2. There are a few different ways you can get music for you iPod now. You can download the music straight from iTunes which will be your easiest option, but also will cost you an arm and a leg. You could also use CD’s you already own and rip them into the iTunes library and download them that way. The other way is to use a program such as Limewire, which I do not suggest. Yes, you may be able to get music free off of Limewire, but you also have a high chance of downloading a virus onto your computer which no one wants to do.

3. After you download the music you want connect your iPod into your computer with the USB wire it came with.

4. If you downloaded the music from Limewire it will require some work to get the music into iTunes.

5. First, go to start. Go to your computer and open up the folder containing the items from your “C” drive. Go to program files next. Once you get into program files you should go through the folders until you find the Limewire folder. Open it up and find the music files (usually have .mp3 at the end of them). They should be right in the Limewire folder.

6. Open up iTunes. Go into the Limewire fold and highlight all the music files you want to download. Right click and copy them. Go into the iTunes library and paste the files. It should download them into the library.

7. If you downloaded songs from iTunes or uploaded them from a CD they will already be in the library.

8. On the sidebar of iTunes go down and find the link with the name of your iPod. Click on it. Once inside there should be a button that says sync music onto iPod. Click this button and wait for the music to finish uploading.

It can be quite a hard task to download music to your iPod, but it is worth the hassle. Good luck with downloading your music!

How to Repair Scratched CD

In order to repair scratched CDs you will need to go to a store and pick up some form of CD repair kit. You can most easily find these at an electronics store or a department store with an electronics section or browse online on your preferred shopping website. *IMPORTANT NOTE: CD repair kits are only able to repair scratches on the BOTTOM of the CD, it is important to inspect the CD and check for scratches on the top of the CD as well. The top would be the part of the CD that has a design or printed material on it, for example if it is a music CD then the top would be the section where the artist’s name and album title would be placed. Scratches on that part of the CD are damaging the data itself and you can’t repair that. Only scratches on the bottom of the CD which interfere with the reading of the data are able to be repaired. CD repair kits will work in a couple possible methods. One method that they can work is by filling the scratches with a solution of some kind and then smoothing out the entire CD so it is readable again. The simplest kit will come with the liquid and a cloth, or other soft material, to wipe the CD with to both remove excess solution off the CD bottom after it fills into the scratches and to avoid creating any new scratches. General Outline for Fluid / Cloth type Kit

  • 1) Lay CD on a flat level surface
  • 2) Apply proper amount of CD repair kit solution
  • 3) Wait required amount of time (if any)
  • 4) Carefully wipe the CD clean
  • 5) Wait required amount of time for CD solution to dry (if any)

The basic process for these kinds of kits is to lay the CD on a flat level surface, apply the supplied solution to the scratched areas on the CD and then carefully wiping it with the cloth available in the kit. It is important to follow the specific directions in the kit as they may vary according to the type and strength of the solution (ex: amount of solution to use, time left to dry, etc) and may cause further damage or permanently ruin the CD if not followed properly. Also use only the material given to you to wipe the CD surface since using the wrong material may create more scratches or do other harm to the CD such as leaving lint within the dried solution. Another type of CD repair kit is a buffer kit. This kit will use some form of a machine that you place the CD into that will buff out the scratches. These may or may not come with a solution similar to the previous kit mentioned. Again it is merely a matter of following the directions for the specific solution given should it come with a liquid to apply to the CD. In regards to the buffing of the CD, it will again be a matter of following the specific directions for that kit for how long it needs to be buffed for although it is possible to find a buffer kit where it has an automatic timer and will just stop after a certain amount of time. General Outline for Buffer type Kit

  • 1) Place CD into buffer kit
  • 2) Either manually buff the CD or start the automatic version for the required amount of time
  • 3) Remove CD from buffer kit • If it also uses a solution it may either need to be added before being placed into the machine, after the CD is placed into the machine, or into a separate portion of the machine itself. Please refer to the manual / directions for the specific kit you have purchased

These are the two most common types of CD repair kits and the generalized methods for working them. Please keep in mind not all kits are the same and it is very important to refer to the instructions given for any deviations from the standard procedure. Hopefully this guide on how to repair scratched CDs will give you an idea of what to look for when purchasing a CD repair kit as well as how to work the two main types of repair kits.

How to Save Money on your Monthly Cell Phone Bill

In this economy everyone seems to be looking for ways in which to spend less money. For most of us a regular expense is that of the monthly cell phone bill, and so let us take a look at how to save money on you monthly cell phone bill.

Most people don’t even know how their monthly phone bill is calculated, which is crazy because this should be the first place to look if you want to learn how to save money on your monthly phone bill. You will notice that there will be a list of all the fixed fees which includes line rental, text package, data package and the costs of any other services included in you plan. There will also be a number that tells you if you have used excess minutes and how much they will cost and on some plans how many rollover minutes you have left over. Below this will be a comprehensive list of how much of the services you have used and what the costs will be. If you have stuck within the limits of you plan most likely this will total zero. If you have exceeded these limits there will a cost per call, text or kilobyte.

So the first place to take not of is are you consistently going over on you minutes, texts or data. If this is the case you should consider one of two things.

    1. Are you recklessly making calls you don’t need to, sending texts or surfing the net on you phone when you don’t need to. If this is the case then you will need to be more disciplined in the use of you phone. Use you home computer to surf the net instead of using the phone. In the case of phone calls many plans offer free evenings and weekends. Examine how many of the calls you made in the day could have been at a time when your free airtime kicks in. Always say to yourself ‘Is this call that urgent that it can’t wait until 8pm or 9pm or whenever the free evening call rate kicks in.
    2. You have established that even by being disciplined you will still go over. In this case it will most likely be beneficial to change your plan to accommodate the usage. If you talk a lot then get a plan with more minutes. If you are a heavy data user consider an unlimited data plan. You can call up your network customer service and they will be able to examine your usage and they should be able to put you on the most cost effective plan for your needs.

This can also work the other way, in that if you are consistently receiving excessive roll over minutes or not using many texts or data then you may be on a plan that exceeds your needs. You will want to consider if moving to a cheaper plan would be better for you. If you are paying monthly you will have started out on a contract, which ties you to a network for a certain amount of time. Normally contracts allow you to change your plan as often as you like so if your needs change you can switch to a more cost effective plan. However once the time of the contract is up you will be in a position to shop around all of the networks to see who offers the cheapest plan that meets your needs.

Remember that networks are forever changing their plan pricing structures so the network that you may have signed with two years ago because it was great value then may no longer be the best option for you. Other things to consider if you are married may be the family plan in which you could reduce the amount you pay on line rental for multiple phones. Remember though that on such plans everybody shares the minutes and so it could be easy to exceed airtime. It will be important that you assess everybody’s cell service needs before choosing a plan, and make sure that everyone is aware of their own personal usage.

You should be able to find ways to save money on your monthly cell phone bill so long as you are armed with the right information. First look at how you use your phone and can you adjust your habits. When you have done that take a look at your call plan and make changes so that it meets your needs.
